Faroma House of Fragrance is a small shop located in the Merion Centre Market in Leeds City Centre. The shop sells a variety of products including hand made incense, fragrant oils, aromatherapy products, cultural art pieces, handcrafted jewellery and artistic drawings. Faadil makes all his incense products himself, and gets all his artistic pieces and jewellery from local crafts people and artists.

Faadil lived in London in the 1980’s for ten years. During his time in London Fadil learned how to make incense from a friend who owned a fragrance business. Faadil decided to bring his skills back to Leeds and set up his own business.

Faadil found it difficult getting funds for the business, he managed to borrow a little money, but through his determination he managed to save the money to get a lease for his shop. Faadil also had difficulty finding somewhere affordable to rent. After looking through various venues he eventually found a venue affordable to set up his shop.

Faadil feels that nurturing his own business and receiving customer satisfaction is one of the best results of running his own business. He quotes “I like when customers leave the store and are satisfied, I like to give them a little extra so that they leave with a smile on there face”. Faadil also sates that recommendation is his best form of marketing.

Faadil states the customers he receives at the minute are mostly female although he does have some male customers. Due to having a wide range of products Faadil receives customers of all ages.

Faadil had placed an advert in a magazine and has also done marketing at Leeds Black Awards he also sponsors a DJ on the local radio station “people’s fm”. However Faadil advises most of his customers visit his shop via good service and recommendation.

As well as his interest in incense Faadil also has as other passion outside work. Faadil is a musician and performs both vocalist and rap music. Faadil is multi talented and can play many instruments including the guitar, keyboard and drums. Faadil is a former member of The Roots Family Band, a band that specialised in Reggae music. Faadil was a lead singer in this band and also played the keyboard. Faadil states that his music is more than a hobby and is more of a passion, stating music has always been around him and it’s something he loves to do. Faadil still performs at venues both by himself and alongside bands.
