Having spent ten years coaching basketball, he was ready to try something new. Through basketball, he found that he had the ability to motivate others to achieve goals they thought were out of reach to them. And so the idea of personally training people was born. He had the right skills and the business idea, but how was he going to develop it?
After hearing that support was available, he took his first step and enquired at the Biz Centre in Chapeltown. And over the last year, UrbanBiz have nurtured his idea and developed it into a successful personal training business. With the help and support on offer at the centre, Kwasi, also known as Coach Qu, is now an all singing all dancing trading, self employed businessman.
Kwasi commented “The Biz Centre really helped me speed up my game when trying to turn my business idea a reality. I love the flexibility that comes with being my own boss and the satisfaction I get knowing that I am also making a difference to the health of Leeds’ future generation”.
He continues to visit once a week to get advice on his business plan and support with access to funding. “The centre has been invaluable. Not only do I receive help from UrbanBiz staff, I’ve been introduced to a number of people who have pushed and motivated me. It’s a place where people with a common goal can meet to share knowledge and without their support, I wouldn’t be where I am today with the business. “
Kwasi plans to develop and expand his business even further. “I’m still learning all about running a successful business and so I’m receiving advice from Peter, the Business Counsellor at UrbanBiz, on how to make it even better. With the support available and my ambition and drive, I’m confident that I can make a real difference to the health of my community”
